Joe Engbrecht has been pursuing the call to worship since 2002. It started in the secret place of his personal prayer life. The foundations of Joe’s worship leading are the Word of God and intimacy with Jesus.
An Alberta-boy, born and raised, he met and married his wife Jacquie in Calgary and in 2006 they moved to Winnipeg to join with Sanctuary House of Prayer. Together they now have three children (Justice, Rayah, and Eden) and his desire is to raise them in the context of night and day worship and prayer.
Joe believes that God has called him to be a modern-day priest, to dwell in His house, to behold His beauty, and to inquire of Him in His temple (Psalm 27:4). For Joe, this takes place both at home in his personal devotion in the secret place, in the moments of every day life, with his family, and in the prayer room at SHOP where he serves as a worship leader.
Song writing has been a relatively new pursuit in recent years, with his first recorded song, “To the Most High” appearing on SHOP’s compilation album “One Found Worthy”. Joe would not consider himself a prolific song writer, but he enjoys seeing songs birthed through prophetic singing with his worship teams.
“I long to see the gift of music and song set free the human heart to encounter the emotions of God,” he says. “I believe songs rooted in the scripture are one of the greatest weapons we have to change the spiritual atmosphere in our cities.”
